Hello and happy Sunday,
The National Caregiving Conference (Chicago) was full of family caregivers and professional care managers. The focus was on caregiving for elders, adults and children.
My key takeaway is that many caregivers eventually experience a mindset shift from “taking care of others” to “putting on my own oxygen mask.” This shift happens at different times for different people, and for some, not at all. But I learned that “self-care” isn’t self-indulgence: it’s completely necessary if we aren’t going to sink the whole ship.
Aging 2.0 Optimize (San Francisco) has become a dating match beetween venture capitalists and companies that can scale in the longevity sector.
The most interesting was Wellthy
, a two-sided marketplace connecting social workers with family caregivers. Employers provide Wellthy as a benefit to their employees, which seems to be a the greatest trend of 2018 (CareLinx and Facebook made a big splash this summer, in a similar arrangement).
In the “old days,” everyone wanted to partner with a senior living provider, but those pilot programs rarely turned into revenue.
Today, the employee benefits department is the new battleground – and it’s where the money is.
Have a great week,
